Sideling Hill
Route 68, in Western Maryland
Visitors to the Sideling Hill Exibit Center have a unique opportunity to stop and view one of the best rock exposures in the northeastern United States. Highway construction cut through the mountain exposing almost 850 vertical feet of a textbook example syncline formed nearly 350 million years ago. The four-story exhibit center features interpretive displays, an orientation program, and tourism information.

Sideling Hill Creek Nature Preserve
One of the healthiest stream systems in all of Maryland, protected and operated by a local chapter of The Nature Conservancy.
Sideling Hill Creek tumbles its way down the steep, forested, shale cliffs of western Maryland before it finally spills into the Potomac River. The preserve has several trails and is home to endangered water plants and native wild animals. Admission is free.
Located off I-68 past the Sideling Hill Creek Interpretive Center, the preserve is open year-round during daylight hours. For information, call (301) 897-8570.
