Fourteen mushroom lovers gathered at the bank barn on the last Saturday in March for Matt’s informative workshop on shiitake mushrooms. After a brief talk about shiitakes (who knew they had all 8 amino acids and lots of B-vitamins?), and a short walk to look at a few types of trees that make good host logs, Matt showed us how to drill holes in the logs, plug in the seed material (in sawdust), and seal them in with wax.  Pretty soon everyone was busy drilling, plugging and brushing on wax. Everyone left with a nice sized log that should bear mushrooms next year. Don’t forget to keep your logs wet!
